Learning to build a website is easier than learning tying your shoes these days. You may think I’m crazy, but that’s absolutely true if you are using Elementor WordPress Website builder. But if you are reading this, chances are that you are already familiar with Elementor and you just want to get started. Here is a quick post to do just that. Please note that this is the first post in a multi-post series on how to use Elementor WordPress website builder. This topic was requested by one of my readers, Elin Maas
Installing Elementor & Setting Up a Header
Step 1
Log in to your WordPress powered website. For me I go to website.com/wp-admin. Once there, select Plugins –> Add New and Search Plugins for Elementor. You will see Elementor & Elementor Pro. Install both plugins.
Step 2
With both plugins installed, go to the WordPress dashboard on your site and look for Elementor in the menu. Select License and make sure you are logged in to your Elementor account. Once logged in, you are ready to get started.
Step 3
Select Appearance on the left menu and then select Themes. I highly recommend installing the them Hello. It’s a bare bones, clean theme created by Elementor for Elementor sites. It’s as light as can be as far as memory is concerned, and it’s incredibly easy to build your site from scratch using the Hello theme. Using the Hello theme will make your site fast and smooth.
Step 4
Once you have the foundation of your site set up, select Templates from the menu and choose Theme Builder. From here, choose Add New at the top you you will see a pop up. Select Header from the popup menu and give it a name if you’d like. Finally, you will see a popup of header templates. Choose the one you like, click Install, and publish the header to your page. The pictures below give you a visual idea of the process:
If you made it this far then you have successfully:
- Installed Elementor on your WordPress powered website
- Installed the Hello theme by Elementor
- Chose a header that will appear at the top of all pages on your site by default.
In the next post in this series I will teach you how to create pages for your website & organize the menu you see in your header. If you have any questions, or you want me to look at your Elementor powered website, please leave a comment below.
Thank you for reading and following along.
